The Flexible Bags with different taps or special tampers are in the international market for around 46 years as package support to several industrial/products areas. Ranging from 1000 liters, for Tomato Pulp transportation, to other sizes for the transport of Diluted Agricultural Fertilizer, Liquid Egg, Coca-Cola Concentrate, Liquid Soup, Olive Oil, Rum and other drinks with high level in alcohol, as well as current and certified wines. There has been a continuous evolution of this package into new sectors which is usually packed in corrugated micro or dual channel cardboard, after its filling, according to its size and weight.
The international and national popularity of this package has been particularly marked in recent years by its increasingly widespread use in the wine-producing sector.
It has been so in Australia, South Africa, USA, France, Italy, Portugal and Spain, leading countries in the increasing use of this package.
There are also interested at this type of packaging wine producers of Chile, Argentina, Brazil and many countries in Eastern Europe.
As a result of its adoption by the wine producers, the importing countries of wine began to join quickly, specially the Nordic countries of Europe, where there is already a great use of this wine packaging in the capacities of 2 and 3 liters.
This package is into the portuguese market for about 16 years and it`s spreading around the country because the 5 liter bag is replacing the “known” glass carboy/5lt that has higher costs of recovery and recycling compared to the bag of same liquid volume.
It is also becoming very important in the wine sector by allowing a bigger quantity of packs per pallet.
In Portugal, the bag is not yet being used onto the packaging of Vinho Verde wines, for not ensuring the gas preservation.
Normally the flexible bag will continue evolving in the diversification of its use.
Naturally, at VerticalBag, we are prepared for the development of new projects on the flexible packaging area because we always commence by studying and defining the correct films to be used, as result of the straight correlation with our suppliers.

The bag is a flexible pack with tap and spout, packed inside a carton (of cardboard, wood or plastic).
The bag is mainly used as a conventional package for packing liquid and pasty products from the food and chemical industry. This type of very innovative package comes up constantly improved and adapted to new applications.
VerticalBag presents this product in 6 standard sizes: 2,3,5,10,15,20 liters.
The most common bags are in flexible laminates, metallized or not, where the product to be packed defines the raw material to be used on their manufacturing. It depends on the barrier protection and safety taken into account for the product conditioned there. The bags for juices and concentrates are in polyethylene, polypropylene or even in a combination of these with a barrier material against light and gases that are harmful for the product, such as the oxygen.
The bag with a tap allows you to take wine at any time , maintaining the vacuum in the rest of the package, so the wine does not oxidise and you may enjoy for as long as two months after opening.
This package provides several advantages both for the manufacturer and the end-consumer.
It is a cost-effective solution as the rigid packaging presents majority costs in most of the cases. There are significant savings for the manufacturer on handling, warehousing and shipping costs, and for the end-consumer, as a daily consumer of a product, there will be a substantial saving while purchasing slightly larger quantities.
A more typical example is of whom serves wine in a glass or a decanter getting benefits in two points:
1) A single and cheaper package for a larger volume
2) No oxygen incorporation into the rest of the product kept inside the package; the bag retracts as it empties, ensuring the contents stay uncontaminated by the air outside. Thus, there is a longer shelf life compared to the wine served from a carboy.

In Europe and Australia, where this package is very used, the bag has already a lot of applications, such as water, juice, milk, energy drinks, fresh-tasty tea and coffee, as well as wine.
Just for having an idea of its importance worldwide, please be aware that 30 to 50% of the wine consumption in Norway and Australia is already in bags. This is associated to three unique benefits that the bag has to the bottle: preserves wine for weeks after opening (2 months), the cost is 30% less, as well as being practical and convenient.
The popularity of this packaging was instantaneous in Australia; it had a surprising effect on the wine consumption per capita that has increased from 1.6 liters to 18 liters. Nowadays, more than half of the wine consumption in Australia is in bags. It is a worldwide trend where Australia is the most traditional country. The USA and European countries, specially France and England, Scandinavian countries use it as well.
